Spain: The Experiment

Spain: The Experiment

Durango, Bizkaia, The Basque County.

Sep, 2017 – June, 2018

Hypothesis:

Galway, the university setting, navigating the student life, I enjoyed it, the academics, not so much, however, an unknown future appears more promising with an attainable degree. Only an hour or two drive away from home, yet the influence continued to be felt; visiting family, shared time with friends, an all too familiar environment, it was still displeasingly close, I had great love for them, but I frequently felt anonymous, unknown, constantly questioning who I was.

Materials:

Me

Procedure:

Durango, an alternative, a promising new home, a new ecosystem to inhabit, appealing to the need for change, away from everything, everything I grew up with, everyone I know, a liberating change embraced, self-discoveries uncovered, becoming acquainted with the mind, further introspection, personality and character reinvented, updated personal preferences, forgotten connections reflected upon, a lifestyle redesigned and reconstructed, an experiment.

Results:

• Inevitably changed.

• Icreased knowledge of self.

• Evidence of growth.

• A reformed self.

• Unexpected challenges faced.

• Improved self restraint.

• Somewhat victorious.

• Influence unavoidable, but different, un-imposed.

Conclusion

The unknown can often appear frightening and uninviting, even so, comfortability, in addition to stagnant living, inhibits growth and progressiveness, challenges and experiences are required to increase knowledge of self, the world, and our living existence.
